# Dreamcast ## Thoughts The Dreamcast is a super cool little machine! I can see how it would have mind-blowing at the time (1999!) as a jump from something like the [[N64]] just three years earlier — I've written about how [[Rayman 2 - The Great Escape]] looks amazing on it compared to the N64 version. I really miss when technical leaps in gaming hardware were so huge! One thing that stands out to me are some of the more cutting edge features like having online capability natively via the built-in modem — even the later [[PS2]] and [[GameCube]] needed separate network adapters to get that working. Apparently quite a few games supported online play. According to the quick search I did, there were hundreds that supported online features, with closer to 50 having actual online multiplayer. Another cool idea for the Dreamcast that [[Sega]] had was the VMU: ![[dreamcast_vmu.png]] Just having a memory card would be too simple. No, lets put a screen and controls on it so you can expand the features that a game can provide — awesome! I haven't had a chance to really mess with this feature so far, but I'd like to try something like [[Sonic Adventure]], which apparently supports it well. ## Favorite Games 1. [[Skies of Arcadia]] 2. [[Crazy Taxi]] 3. [[Jet Set Radio!]] 4. [[Toy Commander]] 5.
