# VHS ## Thoughts Growing up, VHS was the standard of physical media for movies and TV. It had some downsides from a modern perspective, naturally, but it was also really fun as a kid to deliberately pick out movies to watch. This notion has carried on for me as an adult, although I'm more interested in the Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray formats now. I also dabble with collecting films on LaserDisc, but I haven't gotten a new movie on Laser in a hot minute. Anyway, VHS had the interesting drawback of having to physically rewind the magnetic tape within the, well, *tape* in order to have it be watchable again. This wasn't a big deal at the time, as it only took about ~30 seconds, if memory serves. I think one of my favorite things about VHS is just how chunky and clunky everything is — you just don't get that experience with modern formats, let alone anything in the digital realm. >*Be kind and rewind!* #media_formats #analog #movies
