# The Village
## Thoughts
I thought this movie held up pretty well overall, and I think my partner enjoyed it as well! I don't think I had watched it previously in at least 10 years!
I felt like the [[M. Night Shyamalan]] twist could have been handled a bit better, even with just some adjusted editing. Showing the "farce" of the "ones they do not speak of" before the character Ivy leaves the titular village was an odd choice to me. I feel like it took away from the tension of her traveling through the woods on her own since you already know that they're not real. After reading some other opinions on this, it seems like the idea was to adjust the perspective that the audience has so you're no longer concerned about actual monsters, but the human element of the monsters instead. I get that, I suppose, but the movie was more fun before the big reveal, in my opinion.
There was apparently a different ending (possibly) planned back in the day, which [sounds pretty wild](https://www.cinemablend.com/interviews/m-night-shyamalan-provocative-alternate-ending-the-village).
