# Donkey Kong 64 ## Thoughts This is one of the first games I remember getting totally hooked on for a while. I have a pretty vivid memory from when I was a kid of playing the game for four hours straight one summer day, which was way beyond what I would usually do in a game session. I still really like this game, even with it's absurd amount of collectibles and somewhat tedious character system. ## Progress **Main Story:** *Incomplete* --- [[2026 - March 26 - Thursday]]: When I last played a significant amount of this game, I remember getting to the King K. Rool ship, but I never actually finished it. I'll fix that at some point, though. Also, there are an absolutely wild number of collectibles in this game! I don't expect I would *ever* be able to get to 100% after looking at this chart that I came across on Bluesky: ![[dk64_collectibles.png]] ## Stop 'N' Swop There's a super interesting unused feature in this game that was also intended to be used in other titles like [[Banjo-Tooie]] and [[Banjo-Tooie]]: "**Stop 'N' Swop**"! By reaching certain areas of the game, you would be able to remove the game cartridge and insert another compatible game, which opened up extra content. See [this website for an excellent writeup](https://www.raregamer.co.uk/games/stop-n-swop-retrospective/) of the feature!
