# Rayman 2: The Great Escape ## Thoughts I'm not sure what it is about this game exactly that makes it so memorable — something like nostalgia combined with the original music and characters. We never had this game back home, but recall someone else having it such that I was able to play it on occasion. It could also be that it was rented sometimes, but I'm really not sure. ## Progress **Main Story:** Complete > I'm not really interested in trying to 100% this game, as there are quite a few lums and cages to find across all of the levels, not to mention the extra stages in the secret village area. I think the game is well-paced as it is — trying to squeeze more out of it would take away from the experience for me, I think. --- [[2026 - May 21 - Thursday]]: I keep feeling impressed by how good this game looks and runs on the Dreamcast! I'm most of the way through it now, and I'm thinking I'll move on to something else afterwards, as I don't usually dilly-dally with completionist stuff. The only time I've done that thus far is with [[SpongeBob SquarePants - Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated]]. --- [[2026 - May 15 - Friday]]: Wow, the Dreamcast version of *Rayman 2* looks way better than on the N64! Having only ever played the latter, it's impressive to see side-by-side what the Dreamcast can do. I'll have to get some screenshots to compare them, but the increase in resolution and framerate alone make a huge difference. Also, there was a voice-over during the intro cutscene, which I don't remember from the N64 — I'm sure that was a limitation of the cartridge-based system. --- [[2026 - April 28 - Tuesday]]: I learned today that there are several ported versions of *Rayman 2* out there — I'm not sure how I never knew that! I went ahead and ordered a copy off of [[eBay]] for the [[Dreamcast]]. Hopefully, once I get started on that, I can actually finish the game this time! I remember getting to the swamp/bog area in the [[N64]] version at least once, but I don't know if I ever got further than that. 🤔
