Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone - Extended Version
Thoughts
While working on my Plex Server and ripping some of my favorite movies for my partner and I to watch, I noticed that the Blu-ray for Sorcerer’s Stone had two main titles on it: the theatrical release and one that was about six minutes longer — the Extended Version! I’m really surprised that I had never watched it before. My partner and I enjoyed seeing the new and longer scenes sprinkled throughout the movie.
Unless I’m mistaken, some of the extra scenes aren’t in the book, but I think they’re fun additions. My favorite change is probably when Harry gives Snape some attitude in their first potions lesson. Much like in the book, you get an idea of some of the stubbornness that Harry has. The only scene that I didn’t think was really necessary was when Aunt Petunia was finding Hogwarts acceptance letters in the eggs she was cracking in the kitchen.
Overall, I feel like this is a better version of Sorcerer’s Stone, but the theatrical cut is probably more tightly-paced. Similar to viewing the The Lord of the Rings Series films, it’s probably better to watch the theatrical version first, and then — if you’re interested — get even more out of them with the extended versions.
I have more thoughts on this movie over in the original version’s note: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
