Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Thoughts

This is definitely one of those classic feel-good movies. I remember watching this one as a kid many times on VHS, and more recently my partner and I saw it on the big screen for the 55th Anniversary! It’s pretty wild to think this movie came out in the early ’70s! We both really liked the music, which I hadn’t heard for a long time, having not seen it for many years.

All that said, the cast is great for this adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Gene Wilder in particular is excellent as Wonka, Peter Ostrum is a great Charlie, and Jack Albertson plays a really fun Grandpa Joe. Albertson has a great singing voice as well! The visuals of the candy and such are always fun to see in this film, too.

It’s quite a bit different from the original story in some places, but it does its own thing really well, in my opinion.
